Sorting Out My Time

Sorting Out My Time

So, this time of year tends to be overwhelming. Having just come back from a long Winter break, no one really wants to think about crashing courses or three hour lectures. One thing I’ve always had trouble with was managing my time. I’m the type of person that always tries to pack everything in one day, and ends up getting stressed because it’s too much. Whether it’s taking on too many classes, or just having too much on your mind, I think taking a step back can do wonders.

Now, don’t get me wrong. Sometimes, having a packed schedule or a busy day can be eventful and make you feel like you’ve accomplished many things. But, from personal experience, taking a breather once in awhile helps to reorganize your thoughts.

As of late, I’ve been trying to sort out my time so that I don’t get too overwhelmed throughout the week. For example, if I know I’ll have too much homework to do on the weekend, I’ll try to write a blog post early. Or if the week was just too stressful, I’d leave one day to recuperate and have fun without thinking about my work load. I find that coming back to something with a fresh mind allows me to focus easier.

I hit a wall last week, I felt like I couldn’t get anything done. One, there was a lot that was needed to get done. And two, I wasn’t sure if I could meet everyone’s expectations. Over the weekend, some friends and I took a spontaneous trip down to San Francisco. Although it was just for a short moment, I found myself coming back with a different view on how to tackle a lot of my problems.

In short, I try to not to organize too many tasks in one day. I try to take a break or have one day out of the week to have time for myself. I plan ahead, and do some assignments early to have more time to rest. Lastly, I try to not leave anything last minute so that it doesn’t pile up on me.

What do you do to sort out your time? Do you try to slow down or go have fun?
